BEING IN LOVE DOESN'T LAST FOREVER

Being in love is an emotional and obsessive experience. An experience which may take the form of persistence and uncontrollable thoughts, images, impulses, worries, etc.

This could be an overwhelming attraction to a person, an uncontrollable thought about a person, the feeling of the need to protect that person and the feeling that makes you perceive the person as the most wonderful and exciting person you've ever known.

There are stages in romantic love and yes there are two of them. First stage is

THE EUPHORIC STAGE

This is the stage that many people also call it the stage of being in love as explained earlier. This stage requires little effort to make the relationship work as we are pushed along by euphoric feelings. At this point

  • We freely do things for each other without the thought of cost or sacrifice
  • The person we are in love with seems so perfect to us that no matter what friends and family will say, it will make no difference to us.
This stage doesn't last and the average life span of this initial stage of romantic love is between 1 to 2 years. It may also take less depending on the individuals.

When this happens, then a transition into the second stage of romantic love begins,

REALITY STAGE

This stage of romantic love is more intentional than the first stage.

This stage requires work in order to keep emotional love alive, once you make the transition from the first stage. At this point, you begin to see your differences and compatibilities in the areas of

  • Intellectual dialogue
  • Emotional control
  • Social interest
  • Spiritual unity
  • Common values
This is the point you begin to see your differences and similarities and scale how strongly you do feel the "tingles" for the person you are dating. You clearly see them for who they are with their strengths and flaws. You no longer get this lovey Dovey butterflies as before. This is seen as the hardest part of romantic love as it requires deliberate or intentional effort to keep emotional love alive.

This point requires you to learn the things that interests your partner and makes them feel loved and the best possible way to express love to them in a way they understand best.

One of the best ways to keep emotional love alive in a relationship is to learn the love language of your partner.

What then is a love language?

we will talk about that in my next writing.....
